Are you an eBayer?
Here is an introduction to what eBay can do for you.
eBay is an online auction website, and anyone can sell items that they no longer want. A good example would be a PC game. You may have purchased it at retail price, played it once and don't plan on playing it again. Why not sell it on eBay. I have sold many PC games which were in "Like New" condition.
This is what makes eBay a huge online market place where you can find just about anything. One Christmas I wanted to give a unique present for the 7 year son of a good friend of mine. This friend happens to be Art Carney's nephew. I decided to search eBay for anything related to Art Carney and ended up finding the perfect gift - an Ed Norton doll in pristine condition and in it's original box. His son absolutely loved his present! |
eBay Pros:
- Huge selection of products to choose from including Lamborghini's and yachts. It's just amazing what is advertised on eBay. You can find just about anything "new" and "used."
- eBay is easy. Once registered, you can shop by clicking on the various categories or by doing a simple or advanced search.
- Anyone selling on eBay has to follow eBay rules.
- Comments are left by the buyers to express their satisfaction or lack of satisfaction about the sellers or the products they purchased. Thus, it is in the sellers bests interest to have customers leave positive comments. It is important to view a seller's feedback history to help you determine whether or not to do business with this person.
- The forms of payments accepted on eBay include Paypal, money orders, and personal checks. If you plan on shopping on eBay, I suggest that you get a Paypal account. It makes ordering so much easier. You can pay by personal check or money order, but, the drawback is that the item won't be shipped until the seller receives payment.
- Mostly, sellers are honest individuals or business owners.

eBay Cons:
- There are some scammers, but, eBay works very hard to protect customers and do away with the scammers.
- Sellers who make claims about thir products which are not true. An example would be to advertise a product as being in "Like New Condition" when it isn't the case.
- Anyone can sell on eBay. This means that someone could advertise a false product, take your money and not deliver the product. This type of scammer gets caught quickly and their accounts become disabled.

How to protect yourself.
- Check the sellers feedback before bidding on an item. If there are too many negative feedback ratings, stay away.
- New sellers to eBay. Everyone has to start at the beginning. When I first started selling on eBay, someone took a chance with me. Look for how they advertise their product to determine if you think they can be trusted. Be cautious.

Conclusion
Be a smart shopper. I have purchased many products on eBay with fully satisfactory results. I have found unique items which I could not find at regular stores. I have saved a lot of money from shopping on eBay. Besides, it's a lot of fun bidding on items.
If you like shopping, become an ebayer today. It's a blast!
